About Tudor MCS

"In October 1961, a group of friends who had a love for musical theatre sat down together and created Tudor Musical Comedy Society. 60 years later, and we are still here; still a group of friends with a love for Musical Theatre"

Tudor Musical Comedy Society is a local theatre company that gives not only old and new, elderly and young but also experienced and individuals just starting out the ability to perform at a historic venue to a wonderful audience to showcase their talents. At our core, family is something we hold with the upmost importance. We guarantee that all members past, present and future that join our society will leave feeling part of a family, enriched for the better and will always be welcomed back with open arms. Here at Tudor, not only do we uplift one another, we are there to support all through hardships and also to share in the wonderful memories that life brings.

Over the years, our chosen performance venue has been the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall, which has been the home of TMCS for over 60 years, apart from 2 exceptions where TMCS performed at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham. Throughout the years, many things and people have changed at the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall but what has always remained is the same wonderful warm feeling that hits you when you enter the auditorium and this is one of the main reasons which has led us to remaining at this beautiful historic venue.

Tudor has performed many different varieties of musical theatre; from the operetta 'Die Fledermaus', to the classic 'My Fair Lady', the hilarious 'Sister Act' to the feel good 'Made in Dagenham' to name but a few; however we must mention where it all started with 'No No Nannette' a musical comedy which includes the well-known song 'Tea for Tea'.

Although touched upon earlier, a huge part of TMCS throughout its 62 years has been our family bonds and connections; after all, two of the founding members were husband and wife (Roy and Betty Gaunt) whose son (Nigel Gaunt) eventually become Chairman and Stage Manager with his daughter (Charlotte Ward) following in his footsteps. The family feel is core to Tudor and something that will never disappear. We have been lucky enough to have a number of families be part of our society; the Waldrons being one of the largest numbers from one family at stage in any given show with grandpa, daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren all at the same time! When people join Tudor, they do join a family, with many friendships still going strong after 40 plus years and new lasting friendships being made every show. We have been part of many life events such as pregnancies, milestone birthdays, anniversaries and weddings and were lucky enough to witness the proposal of two of our members right on stage!

A message from Charlotte Ward in 2021 for Tudors 60th anniversary; "Tudor has been in my life ever since I can remember and when I was young, I dreamt of the day I would get to go to rehearsal with my Dad. I remember how excited I used to feel when I was allowed to come to the Town Hall on show weeks and saw the bright lights bring put up, the set being built, the sound of the big band and the wonderful cast dancing and singing backstage to squeeze in extra practice. It is a feeling I can't quite explain, and I still get that rush of excitement and "that feeling" every time we are here. I could not be prouder to have been Chair of this wonderful society and to have walked in the footsteps of my Grandparents and Dad. Our founding members are sadly no longer with us, but I know they will be smiling somewhere, tapping their feet singing along and bursting with pride for this amazing achievement for Tudor Musical Theatre Society."

We'd like to give special thanks to:

Nigel Gaunt (pictured above) has been part of the Tudor family from the start. His parents Roy and Betty Gaunt founded the society over 60 years ago. Having started as a call boy, he then went on to serve on the committee, being stage manager then becoming Chairman... Twice!

Weld like to give thanks to Alan Waldron (pictured above). After 1981 Alan became a core and integral part of Tudor for many years, staring in many lead roles alongside his daughter and grandchildren. We will all remember you fondly and miss you greatly with each passing day and each passing production.

One individual we would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to is Georgia Young (pictured above) for her support of Tudor through promotional materials and her fantastic programmes that she has previously created for Tudor. We cannot thank you enough for all you have done.
